SUNUNU FOR SALE: ACCEPTED $1,000 FROM CHEVRON ON THE SAME DAY HE VOTED TO PROTECT $13 BILLION IN TAX BREAKS TO BIG OIL
(Manchester, NH) - To celebrate Earth Day this Tuesday, John E. Sununu has spent the week scrambling to shore up his poor image on the environment, today announcing that he'll attend an Earth Day rally this weekend.
"Sununu's New Hampshire face may involve grassroots Earth Day celebrations, but his actions in Washington D.C. tell a different story," said Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinated Campaign. "In D.C., he accepted campaign contributions from Big Oil on the exact same day he voted to give them a $13 billion of taxpayer money tax breaks. Sununu isn't representing New Hampshire, he's selling his vote to the highest bidder."
Four months ago, Sununu had the chance to show his commitment to the environment by supporting a bill that would have rolled back $13 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the oil and gas industry and given that money in tax breaks to renewable energy sources. Instead, Sununu sold his vote to Big Oil.
