Stephen Calls Shea-Porter's Anti-Growth Record "Deplorable"Congresswoman Scores A 1% Rating With Leading Pro-Growth Group
MANCHESTER, NH- 1st District Congressional Candidate John Stephen today called Rep. Carol Shea-Porter's recently released rating of 1% from the Club for Growth, a national pro-economic growth group.  The low rating ranked Shea-Porter in a tie for 394th place among the 435 House members.  The Congressional Scorecard ratings can be found online at this site (http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2008/05/the_2007_congressional_scoreca.php).
"At a time when Americans truly need a strong voice to stand up for growing our economy, Rep. Shea-Porter has been opposing efforts to keep us moving forward," said Stephen.  "The last thing we need in the middle of an economic slowdown is higher taxes, more regulation and more wasteful government spending, growing our deficit, but that is just what the Congresswoman has voted for.  We need leaders who are going to work to create jobs, grow wages and hold the line on spending."
The Club for Growth based their ratings on votes on taxes, regulations, spending and free trade.  The ratings were based on 37 votes cast over 2007 by the House of Representatives, weighted by importance to ensuring a pro-growth environment.  Rep. Shea-Porter voted in favor of the pro-growth position only once.
"We need our economy to thrive, not to stumble, but Rep. Shea-Porter is placing roadblocks in the way of efforts for growth," added Stephen.  "This is one more reason why we need new blood and a different direction in Washington.  The citizens have to us to step forward and make it easier to get our economy moving, not harder.  Her record for the working families of New Hampshire is deplorable."
