Gilmour Announces Run for State Senate
Today Peggy Gilmour announced that she will be a candidate to fill the vacancy of Senator Dave Gottesman in Senate District 12 which includes Nashua wards 1, 2, 5, and 9, Hollis, Brookline and Mason.
“I am candidate for State Senate and plan on representing Nashua, Hollis, Brookline and Mason,” said Gilmour. “I believe my background, commitment to the community, and years of bringing people together to tackle one of the greatest crises in America, health care, and care at the end of life will allow me to serve the district and New Hampshire well and to continue the dedication and leadership Dave Gottesman has shown.”
“I am very excited to begin the campaign, go door to door to listen to my neighbors, and help move New Hampshire forward,” Gilmour continued.
Gilmour has worked in the health care industry since 1962. From 1994 to 2002 she was the President/CEO of Home Health & Hospice Care. Home Health & Hospice Care is a not-for-profit Visiting Nurse Association and hospice. The organization provides home health services to the elderly, the acute and chronically ill, children, newborns, and the dying in the comfort and security of the individual's home. Under her leadership, Home Health and Hospice Care built and opened the Community Hospice House, the first inpatient and residential hospice in NH.
In 1989 as Executive Director of the Community Hospice of Greater Nashua, Gilmour integrated the largely volunteer hospice into two VNA’s, to become a fully comprehensive hospice program. Later she led the Hospice Division through Medicare certification and accreditation to become the one of the largest hospices in New Hampshire.
She has served on the Board of Directors of the Home Care Association of New Hampshire and the National Hospice & Palliative Organization, currently serves as co-chair of the Public Policy Committee of the New Hampshire Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and is President of the Nutt Hospital Trustees.
In 2002 Gilmour was honored with the Humanitarian Award by the Greater Nashua Charitable Foundation as well as the Home Care Service Award by the Home Care Association of New Hampshire.
Gilmour received her nursing degree from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Boston University. She lives in Hollis and is married to Dr David Gilmour.
