State Rep. James Phinizy (D-Acworth) has decided to challenge current state Sen. Bob Odell (R-Lempster), The Nashua Telegraph is reporting.
Phinizy is the current chairman of the House Environment and Agriculture Committee and signed a letter urging House Democrats to oppose the constitutional education amendment.
Senate District 8 covers the western part of New Hampshire. It includes Claremont, New London, Newport, Acworth, Langdon, Sullivan, Sunapee, Unity and Roxbury.

Dist 8 is solidly Democratic
Jay Phinizy's record in the House more accurately reflects the values of the district than Odell.
Phinizy has a solid record and will attract considerable support from around the state.
With the second district going 2 to 1 Democratic, Gallus, Odell and Bragdon will all be gone in November.
Congrats to the Democrats for the pick ups.
Very Unimpressed
Wow, bold predictions behind the cloak of anonymity. You might have some credibility if you had the courage to sign your name. I suppose I should just assume paid Dem staffers post to this site all the time now.
Odell - like Gallus and Bragdon - ran way ahead of the ticket in their districts in '06 (and '04), even in the face of a landslide of straight tickets against them last time. The political environment is much better for Rs in '08 than it was in '06: McCain at the top of the ticket will run 20-30 points better than the top of the '06 ticket did; Sununu will likely be about the same; and without straight tickets, local candidates will be judged on their own merits. Net result is we should have more elected Republicans after the Nov election than we have going into it.

You spin me right round Fergie. You spin me right round.
Mr. Chairman,
Thank you for taking the time to spin on this site. Unfortunately your spin is just that - spin. But impressive just the same.
Neither Odell or Gallus had well organized or well funded opponents, shucks, neither even raised or spent ten thousand and neither had staff or were part of the targeted effort in 2006.
Both Rep. McLeod and Rep. Phinizey will be top targeted races in 2008.
Perhaps you haven't seen the latest polling but McCain is running behind in NH - a 15 point swing in one month.
With the strength of the presidential, the governor, the senate race and congressional the top of the ticket for Democrats has never been stronger.
Tell your guys to strap on their lifepreservers because they are about to be washed out to sea.
AND BRAGDON IS GOING DOWN
AND BRAGDON IS GOING DOWN TOO!
