JEANNE SHAHEEN AND MICHELLE OBAMA HOLD ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION WITH WORKING WOMEN
(Manchester, NH) —Former Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen held a roundtable discussion with Michelle Obama in Manchester today to discuss the challenges New Hampshire's working women face.
"I'm glad to be here today with Michelle Obama," Shaheen said. "Our economy is struggling and the middle class is getting squeezed. Working mothers in particular are getting hit hard as they balance work and child care while struggling to make ends meet."
"We must take steps to bring down food and gas prices and relieve the pressure on middle class families. We must work to bring down health care costs and create universal access to health care. We need to expand tax credits for child care and elder care to help people give their children and loved ones the care and attention they deserve without crippling their ability to make ends meet.
"We need to elect leaders, like Barack Obama, who will put America's families, not the special interests, first."
For months, Shaheen has traveled across New Hampshire, meeting with voters and New Hampshire's families, listening to their concerns and discussing her proposals to help middle class families.
