John Stephen Joins NH Chapter Launch For Anti-Tax, Anti-Spending Group Americans For Prosperity Calls For End To Wasteful Spending, Limited Government
CONCORD, NH- 1st District Congressional Candidate John Stephen today joined the launch of the New Hampshire chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a national free-market, anti-tax group that calls for limited government, regulatory restraint and an end to wasteful federal spending. The group met this morning at the steps of the State House, where Stephen was a featured speaker. "The waste coming out of Washington today is both staggering and outrageous," said Stephen. "It's no surprise that we have laid out more than $2 trillion in deficit spending over the past six years. That's over $6,500 in debt for every man, woman and child in the country. It's like we all just put 60-inch plasma TVs on our credit card, but didn't get the TV. Instead, we got fruit fly research. "The debate in the Beltway over the past six years has been borrow-and-spend or tax-and-spend. We need leaders who know that the problem is the spending and that wasting our tax dollar is never acceptable." Stephen pointed out that he is the only candidate in the race to take a pledge against federal earmarks and the one candidate who has called for a reduction in non-defense discretionary spending. "I am proud to be the only candidate in my race to sign a no earmark pledge and the one candidate who is committed to cutting non-defense discretionary spending," noted Stephen. "The kids have had fun having a party at our expense, but now it's time to send in the adults to clean up the mess and put our fiscal house back in order."Fiscal discipline is about setting priorities and being able to say "no." Believe it or not, you can do this to save money. We did it at HHS and we returned more than $143 million to the state taxpayers over four years. All it takes is some guts, and the willingness to roll up our sleeves and do the hard work of getting government under control."
