John Stephen Releases First Radio Ad Of CampaignAd By Tommy Thompson Focuses On Welfare Reform Efforts In New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, NH- John Stephen, Republican candidate for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, today released his first radio advertisement of the campaign. The ad, running district-wide, is by former Wisconsin Governor and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, and focuses on Stephen's welfare reform efforts, which have increased the number of recipients who are working from 16% to the current 53%, while reducing the welfare rolls by 20%.
"Welfare reform was one of the toughest things I had to do, but it was certainly worth it," said Stephen. "The results have been superb and many more people have moved from welfare into a career and are making better lives for themselves and their families. This ad helps explain why reforming welfare was so important and spreads the message that government can work when we make a commitment doing things efficiently and effectively."
Stephen said he had tremendous appreciation for Governor Thompson's willingness to support his campaign and to narrate the radio ad.
"Governor Thompson led efforts on welfare reform in the early 1990's when no one else was talking about making changes," Stephen added. "He knows what works and what doesn't. To have him say that no one did a better job than we did here in New Hampshire means a lot."
