Three weeks before the Republican primary, John Stephen (R-Manchester) has begun airing a television ad that seeks to draw differences between him and his primary opponent, former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro).
"Jeb Bradley: He's everything that's wrong with Congress," the announcer states.
The thirty-second ad, titled "Compare," will begin airing on WMUR tomorrow.
"There is a significant difference in my record and Jeb Bradley's on the issues most important to the public, wasteful spending and energy independence. The people want change in Washington and this ad shows that I am the candidate with the record for delivering change," Stephen said in a press release.
Earlier this summer Stephen aired an ad titled "Change."
The year 2008 brought many fun memories for New Hampshire political junkies. From Hillary's tear in Portsmouth to the >

Pretty Good
A good comparison ad, but the part at the end where they show Bradley's face was a little over the top, save attacks like that for the general.
Not Subtle
That ad was about as blunt as a jackhammer. Jackhammers do tend to be effective though. One thing about Stephen, you know what he stands for.
Absolutely!
You always know where Johnny is coming from like when he was on paid staff for Mondale against Reagan and Dukakis against Bush 41.
Yep, you always know where Johnny is coming from.
Or do you?
"Compare"? How about "Attack"...
I suppose this is the new trend in politics, first started by our semi-homeboy Mitt Romney...it is now compare and contrast ads, not attack ads. Yet, they look the same.
The fact is, John Stephen realizes he is in trouble with the primary just a few weeks away and he has gone negative on Jeb Bradley. Stephen's record and issue platforms sure don't speak for themselves, and now he is having to revert to the oldest trick in the book.
Talk about typical Washington politics.
This ad is perfect. Jeb
This ad is perfect. Jeb Bradley is an old, stale, big government neocon. He has got to go. The establishment will, of course, defend him to the death, but the grassroots is for Stephen. PEOPLE ARE SICK OF YOU, JEB. GO HOME!
Negative Fast
This race went negative fast. Bradley put up a negative radio ad this morning on WGIR and Stephen responds within the day with an attack ad on TV. Looks like it's going to be a fun 3 weeks!
I was in the Londonderry parade with Sununu Saturday, and if that's any indication, Stephen is going to win. He must have had four to five times the number of supporters there.
John Stephen is spending
John Stephen is spending time in DC campaigning with and taking campaign contributions from Jack Abramoff lobbyists like Todd Boulanger and Edward Ayoob: http://www.nhinsider.com/chaz-proulx/2008/5/16/john-stephen-union-leader... politicians working hand in glove with shady lobbyists is what people are sick and tired of seeing. I think thats "part of the problem in washington"
Horrible Ad...
I like John Stephen a lot less after watching this ad. It is not appropriate to speak ill of another Republican, that was Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment...Stephen worked for the Democratic party at the tome so he wouldn't know that. Jeb deserves another shot at Carol, this time it is clear that he will beat her pretty soundly.
This style of ad reminds me of the low-life tactics of Mitt Romney against John McCain and Mike Huckabee. Those ads backfired and Romney lost both Iowa and New Hampshire after going negative.
Deserves?
A Good Republican, nobody "deserves" another shot at anything. Jeb will get his chance to earn another shot at Carol.
They way I look at it, Jeb ran a terrible campaign in 2006, and lost his seat. If he runs another terrible campaign in 2008, he won't make it out of the primary, but it will be good to know, because we can't afford to send a bad candidate against Shea-Porter.
Jeb will either improve his performance and beat John, or he will lose. Either way, we will be sending our best into the general. Competition makes you better- a real Republican value!
In most cases,
I'd agree with this alleged "good" republican when he/she quotes Uncle Ron Reagan. That said, bradley is a RINO-Republican in name only. He spent like a drunken sailor when he was in Congress, he was wrong on immigration, wrong on taxes (although he now claims to support the tax cuts), wrong on pretty much every conservative measure. Add to that the fact that he marched in lock step with neo-cons like boener, who gave us CSP. Nope, jeb is the farthest thing from a conservative, so the ad is dead-on. Stephen can and will beat csp to bring conservative values back to the NH Congressional delegation and shake up the RINO fools that pass for "leaders" in the Republican party. It's time to get back to our core values and bradley is not the one to do it.
John Stephen: Misleading Voters
Jeb Bradley is FOR drilling. He also cares about the environment... so when we didn't need to drill in ANWR, he voted against it. Now he knows the American people NEED congress to do something to bring down gas prices. He has a balanced voting record and truly speaks for the people of New Hampshire. Looks like Stephen is just looking to lie to the people of NH!! Shame on him.
NHConservative is probably a stephen staffer...
seeing as his comment is lock-step with the nasty tone of this ad. Come on Republicans... we are better than this. After seeing this, I know who I will be voting for: the candidate who IS better than this, Jeb Bradley!

What a Joke.
HA! The only joke bigger than this ad is the press release Stephen's campaign put out complaining about Bradley's response ad to this ad. SERIOUSLY?! What is this guy getting at... He attacks the Congressman and then whines, kicks and screams cause Bradley responds with an ad about Stephen's cost shifting. What a Joke.
