Sierra Club develops presidential scorecard

The Sierra Club will begin distributing a card to its New Hampshire members that compares the energy plans of presumptive presidential nominees U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

The club focused on whether the plans would take on oil companies, fight global warming, increase fuel economy standards and invest in renewable energy sources.

"Both candidates are talking about energy, high prices and global warming so it's important to look past the rhetoric and see what is at the heart of their plans" said Catherine M. Corkery, New Hampshire Sierra Club Chapter Director, in a press release.

"As this scorecard illustrates, the contrast in this election could not be starker.  Barack Obama wants to give tax relief and $1,000 energy rebates to working families, while John McCain wants billions more in tax breaks for oil companies making more than $1,000 a second in profits."
