State Senate Candidate Fenton Groen Hosts GOP Picnic
Barrington, NH-September 6, 2008- More than 100 people turned out for a picnic hosted by Fenton Groen, candidate for State Senate in District 6, at the Barrington Middle School. Among those who spoke were former State Senator George Lovejoy and US Congressional candidate John Stephen.
Also introducing themselves were a number of candidates for state representative, including Fenton's brother Warren Groen, Tom Kaczynski, Mac Kittredge, Bernie McKay, Joe Moffett, and Julie Brown, who are all seeking office in Rochester, and George Bailey, Jim Forsythe, Dave Mincin, and Marty Harty, who are running in Barrington.
Groen, whose district includes Rochester, Somersworth, Barrington, Nottingham, and Madbury, gave a speech outlining his desire to bring budgetary responsibility to Concord, and push back against unnecessary regulation, which hinders individual rights and reduces freedom. "I'm also strongly in favor of the right to bear arms," Groen said. "Why? One, because it makes sense. And two, it's constitutional." Groen is running on a tri-fold platform, which includes fiscal responsibility, reduced and controlled regulations, and traditional family values.
The friends and neighbors who gathered around the sandwiches seemed to feel the excitement in the air, despite heavy rainfall on the roof that made it difficult to hear some of the speakers. Many supporters wore "Fenton Groen for State Senate" t-shirts.
The purpose of the picnic was to introduce constituents to their potential representatives in Concord, and to encourage people to volunteer at the polls and at the Rochester Fair, where Groen will have an informational booth.
