Ryan to resign
By Brian Lawson, PolitickerNH.com ReporterState Rep. Jim Ryan (D-Franklin) says that he will resign his position and not seek re-election in November.
Ryan, who has been jailed for charges relating to a forgery case, told The Citizen he sent a letter of resignation to House Speaker Terie Norelli.
"I sent a letter of resignation through [Franklin Democratic Party Chair] Larry [Hennessy], addressed to him and [House Speaker Terie] Norelli," Ryan told The Citizen. "The letter to [Secretary of State] Bill Gardner takes me out of contention."
Ryan also said when he is release he will not live in Franklin, which means his name will be removed from the November ballot. However, if Ryan's name remains on the ballot the Democrats will have to launch a write-in campaign on behalf of another candidate.
After his arrest was made public, Norelli removed Ryan as chairman of the House Transportation Committee and has chairman of the committee to re-elect House Democrats.
