MANCHESTER--U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) officially launched her re-election campaign with an event hours after Barack Obama packed Manchester's Veterans Park.
Shea-Porter will be facing former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) in a rematch of their 2006 race.
"John Stephen and I disagree on a lot of things, but we agree on one thing and that's Jeb Bradley was what's wrong with Washington," Shea-Porter told supporters at Chateau restaurant. Stephen was Bradley's opponent in the Republican primary.
Shea-Porter said that Bradley should tell voters of the 1st Congressional District whether or not he supports private accounts for social security.
"Is he for social security privatization or isn't he," Shea-Porter asked. "He has had two years to think about it and we deserve an answer."
Shea-Porter also stressed the importance of electing Obama and keeping Democrats in control of Congress.
"If we put a Democrat in the White House and Democrats back in Congress we will see the America we've been waiting for," she said.
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley told the audience that they should expect Bradley to spread "lies" and "smears" until Election Day.
"We're in for eight weeks of lies, eight weeks of smears," Buckley said.

Bradley's albatross
Buckley is picking up on Jeb Bradley's albatross coming out of the primary. The perception that he ran a dishonorable primary campaign has turned off a number of independents here in Manchester that I have spoken to.
If Bradley looks like he will say and do anything to win the seat (change positions on drilling, lie about opponents' records, etc), he looks like just another Washington politician. He will actually make Shea-Porter look like the outsider.
John Stephen's dismal display
The fact that a couple fastballs under the chin could knock Stephen out of the batter's box is all the proof voters need that he is in the wrong business.
John is a terrific budget hawk and he will do great things in the McCain administration making the federal goverment run more efficiently. That he is not much of a politician is not necessarily a bad thing.
For Once I Agree With Carol Shea-Porter
Although I'm a Republican I must agree for once with Carol Shea-Porter. Jeb Bradley is EXACTLY what's wrong with Washington. He lies and will do what ever it takes to get elected. His only interest is to serve enough time to qualify for congressional retirement.
Sadly I, and a lot of my Republican friends will be voting to return Carol Shea-Porter to Washington for two more years, if for no other reason but to insure that a disingenuous liar like Jeb Bradley doesn't get elected.
At least we know that Carol stands as a left wing loon, with Jeb we will never know. It will depend who he is dealing with.
Go Carol Go !
John Stephen did not endorse
John Stephen did not endorse bradley. I will not vote for bradley. Although I believe that Porter is a buffoon, she is truthful about her ideas. On the other hand, you have bradley, who claimed to be a conservative when he first went to congress, but proved not to be so. He was wrong for us then and is wrong for us now. Bradley is a political cancer and when faced with a cancer, you undergo painful surgery in teh hope of better things to come. Bradley must be removed from the political landscape just as cancer must be. Add in that he is a deceitful, vindictive, pot-bellied little twerp and I say go Carol. I'd rather have an honest albeit stupid and incompetent democrat there than a lying RINO (Republican In Name Only).
Jeb is a Liar
The difference between Jeb and Carol is lies versus truth. Although Shea Porter is not conservative, she is truthful, something Jeb can no longer ever claim to be. The Union Leader said "Bradley made stuff up about Stephen out of whole cloth. That’s slander, and it’s unacceptable." Being a Congressman is a higher calling then being a petty liar. For that reason, the choice is obvious, truth over lies, Shea Porter over Bradley.
"She definately has my vote."
After the Manchester Rally, I spotted a vet hanging out, "taking in the sights." When I appoached him, he greeted me warmly, but stated that he was supporting McCain/Palin. We chatted amicably, as we both respected each's service and both of us felt that the field had been narrowed to the best 2 of the candidiates.
I gave him mad props from pulling McCain from the brink of the abyss during the primaries, as we know, had McCain lost NH it would have been all but over. He respected Obama and agreed with some of Obama's positions on Foreign Policy and the GWOT.
I didn't give him the pitch, but rather tried to represent Obama in a bi-partisan way. Then out of the blue he looked at me dead in the eye and said, "McCain is the only Republican" that he will be voting for. He praised Carol's work for vets and CD1. When I asked him if he could volunteer for Carol, he said he would like to but "pressure" would prevent it, but that "she definately has my vote."
Jack Mitchell :o)
Thank you for sharing this story, very nice.A refreshing change from some of the mean attacks, without substance. I love what Carol has done for the vets and it is also why I am supporting Sen. OBAMA. To me the term "support the troops" does not mean keep sending them to new wars to " spread democracy", supporting the troops means = when they come home, what are they coming home to ? I hope help, support and policies that will empower them and SHOW a thanks for their service. Save the talk, walk the walk! Send Carol back to congress, she really does support the troops!
This is what voting for Shea-Porter will get you...
Please call Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes and have them vote NO on this nonsense they co-sponsored! This bill is supposed to correct "Nature Deficit Disorder" a new disease conjured up by the lefty nutcases! http://www.cbf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=act_sub_actioncenter_federal... HR 3036 will expand the federal role in education and indoctrinate our children with Al Gore style environmental propaganda. The current government induced energy crisis will only worsen if children are taught they must oppose exploring and developing America's own energy sources, such as drilling, nuclear and clean coal.
Nothing in HR 3036 teaches the view that America should tap its own energy resources in an environmentally responsible way. If we're serious about American students being globally competitive, schools need to concentrate on academic basics, not inject one-sided environmentalism into every area of academic study or consume precious class time recycling and engaging in politicized community activism. We don't need yet another expansion of federal power, with Washington insiders deciding for schools what latest controversial environmental fad must be in their education standards and teacher training. The requirements for material produced under HR 3036 to be scientifically accurate and non-political are unverifiable and unenforceable. "Environmental justice" and "self-esteem" are completely non-academic political and psychological concepts that cannot and should not be taught or tested.
I am not just a taxpayer, but I am a teacher and I oppose the use of our school children as political PAWNS.
