JENNIFER HORN: RUDY GIULIANI'S ANTI-CHOICE STATEMENTS DON'T GO FAR ENOUGH

(CONCORD) Today, New Hampshire Republicans will welcome Rudy Giuliani back to the Granite State as he headlines a fundraiser for Executive Councilor Ray Wieczorek.  But one New Hampshire Republican is unlikely to be there: Jennifer Horn.

Is it because Jennifer Horn is trying to distance herself from national Republicans?  Nope.  Horn has said that she "stands on the Republican platform without reservation." [TV-13, 3/11/08].  It is because Giuliani's anti-choice statements when he was running for President did not go far enough for Jennifer Horn.

Jennifer Horn participated in a viewing session arranged by the New York Post in May of 2007 in which New Hampshire Republicans were asked to provide their response to Giuliani's performance in a Republican Presidential debate held in California.

During this debate, Giuliani responded to a question on abortion by saying that, "It would be OK," if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.  Additionally, he pledged to only nominate "strict constructionist" judges to the Supreme Court and stated his support for the Hyde Amendment, which bars the federal government from permitting low-income women on Medicaid from obtaining an abortion, even if carrying the pregnancy to term would result in physical health damage to the woman.

What was Jennifer Horn's response to these right-wing stances?  She felt his positions were not extreme enough.  According to the New York Post:

'Radio talk-show host Jennifer Horn, 42, said, "I've had serious concerns about Giuliani from the beginning," said Horn who cringed when the former mayor addressed the topic [of abortion].

"I'm not convinced he would protect the unborn to the degree a president should."' [New York Post, 5/4/07].

"Apparently Giuliani's extreme views on restricting a woman's right to choose were not extreme enough to satisfy Jennifer Horn," said Raymond Buckley, Chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

In addition, Jennifer Horn, who has run her entire campaign on the notion that Washington needs newcomers instead of "political insiders", apparently felt differently before she decided to run for Congress.  She said, "I'm not convinced he has the level of experience that is necessary for the job."  [New York Post, 5/4/07].
