Shaheen launches 'Truth Team' to refute Sununu's claims

The U.S. Senate campaign for former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen has launched a new effort to discredit the claims of Republican opponent, U.S. Sen. John Sununu, the Shaheen camp said Monday.

The Shaheen campaign said its so-called "Truth Team" would mainly be deployed to fight back against negative advertisements and what Shaheen spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield called distortions of Sununu's record coming from the Republican side.

"The Truth Team is a resource for reporters and voters to get the facts and learn the truth," Bedingfield said in a statement. "The choice in this senate race is between John Sununu's record of marching in lockstep with George Bush's failed economic agenda and Jeanne Shaheen' promise of a new direction -- and Sununu's millions can't distract from that fact."

The Shaheen campaign said the "Truth Team" will feature four veterans of New Hampshire politics: Democratic advisor Kathy Sullivan, state Sen. and former House Majority Leader Pete Burling, former Republican state Sen. Rick Russman, and Republican businessman Steve Walter.

Here's some truth she can

Here's some truth she can work on as a State Senator she voted to raise taxex or fees 23 times. As Gov. her budget was out of control she proposed a 2.5% sales tax to cover the cost of education. Then to top it all off just before leaving office she allowed the AG to give Bishop John McCormack a sweet plea deal to avoid being prosicuted for his role in the Sexual Abuse of many NH children.

It's Amazing...

It's amazing that Republican "leaders" in recent years can only talk about taxes and what not to do to help our fellow human beings. I guess they think the formula to winning is to talk only about pocketbooks and wallets.

I think most Americans are concerned with having a strong nation, and that means making sure we help one another. Having "rich" and "poor" or "educated" and "uneducated" and "healthy" and "sick" doesn't make a strong country for long.

I can understand that those who have lots of cash want to keep it, and they can't be blamed for that. But Corporate America has expanded the gap in our culture between wealth and not. Many people live just off their investments, and in many corporations the management-level get hundreds of times the pay, along with generous bonuses, of the worker-line employees. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. No wonder corporations are so anti-union.

But there are many things that need to be done in our society to help one another out. Quality education and health care are two things that should be avilable to all, but from the Republican leadership all we hear is how to restrict both just to those who can afford it.

The concept of "investment" in our society FOR our society seems alien to too many top Republican honchos.

I do think that most voters, including Republicans, see the value of helping our fellow neighbors -- our fellow Americans -- and won't vote just their own self interests. I think the Republican leaders who think it's all about money are missing that point. America's future is about values and helping people.

Theres a difference between charity and force.

Jim, there is a vast difference between volunteering, donating and forcing one to help by paying obnoxious taxes for lousy services. I know from your rhetoric you post, you are socialist “lite” and believe that all Americans should pay between most of their income in taxes, just so the bottom 10% could be equalized (“lets be poor and miserable together” is your motto).

Imagine how great our education system would be if we attached the education funds to the students, and gave them an opportunity to go wherever they wanted, but no we force them to go to whatever school is closer are in bed with the corrupt unions (as Albert Shanker once said "When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I'll start representing the interests of school children.") Health care, imagine if we lived a healthy lifestyle, stopped frivolous lawsuits against doctors, and gave Americans the opportunity to purchase insurance in different states. But no, you want the government to force the taxpayers to pay for a system that would not work, and for one that even you concede (through previous posts) would be extremely rationed and that some Americans would denied for certain treatments.

Americans do take care of Americans, just don’t force them.

Jim, get with the program!

What about those of us who are poor but want to be rich some day? It's not Corporate America (those big bad businesses!) that are creating a gap, it's the Democrats who want to tax and spend, regulate and socialize us into submission, for the greater good.

The average American has more access to information and technology than ever before, so it shouldn't be any surprise that union membership is at an all-time-low. It's not businesses that don't like unions, it's the average American worker. Why would anyone want to pay dues to a group that fosters a culture of apathy and then gives their money away to radical socialists at all levels of government?

Republicans and independents understand that we created the strongest, most free nation on earth without a government monopoly on education. As soon as we gave government this authority and said monopoly, we started to graduate kids who hadn't learned anything and weren't critical thinkers. Hence our current social state. It's not more government control of regulation that we need, it's LESS.

The same goes for healthcare: government involvement is wrecking it and driving up the price. On a basic fundamental level, providing healthcare is not a legitimate function of government at any level. On a practical level, government regulation or even worse, monopoly, would only drive up the cost, would likely drive healthcare providers to go out of business, and most importantly, reduce the quality of care we receive.

Maybe Rep. Jim Splaine should spend less time typing away, day after day, regurgitating the latest weak Dem talking points on PolitickerNH and spend more time brushing up on the issues.

I think the voters of his district deserve better.

Shaheen

Without a doubt the worst governor NH ever had...

Steve Walter, Walter Peterson, et al, 'for Shaheen' are NOT Republicans.

This is pure spin.

NO Republican in his or her right mind would support Lynch and Shaheen.

Newsflash: Projected deficit now $300M

Thank you, we've been Lynch'd!

How about some truth first?

Steve Walter is part of "Republicans" for Lynch and Republicans for Clinton; even introduced her during the primary season. Not sure how many democrats you have to introduce or support (particularly ones running for president) before you have to resign from the party, but I think he qulaifies already.

Rick Russman is a hard-core Green, with RINO creds as well; part of the Granite State Conservation voters allaince. He's also an avid Lynch supporter and admitted anti Bush anti Gregg/Anti Sununu guy. Where exactly he is a republican I am unclear.

Kathy Sullivan is Kathy Sullivan--occassional supporter of out of state illegal voters, and who is rumored to moonlight as a collecter of Republican campaign signs. Burling at elast is a genuine liberal(D)NH Rep.

I think the first thing that Shaheen's Might-Morphin Truth Team for Justice might want to address with the press is who they really are before we regard anything they might have to offer as the Truth.
