Inside the echo chamber

It's July, and let's face it, even we're having a hard time paying much attention, especially with injuries plaguing the fantasy baseball team.

Nonetheless, presidential campaign are poised to respond instantly to whatever arises.  For instance, let's take a look inside the "sent items" box of John McCain's presidential campaign for the past few days.

Last Friday McCain's campaign offered the media former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift as a commenter on UnityFest 2008.  That inspired bit of counterprogramming merited no fewer than four e-mails  (two with exclamation points!) in a single afternoon.

By the dog-day standards of early summer, Wes Clark's weekend comments on John McCain's military service and his readiness to be commander-in-chief have been the gift that keeps on giving. So far, we count no fewer than eight e-mails on the subject since late Monday morning, including:

  • Media Advisory: McCain Campaign Conference Call Launching McCain Truth Squad
  • RESPONSE to Obama campaign's written statement on Gen. Clark's comments yesterday
  • AUDIO: McCain Campaign Conference Call Launching McCain Truth Squad

And then today:

  • RESPONSE to Gen. Wes Clark's continued attacks on John McCain today
  • In Case You Missed It: Editorials On Gen. Wesley Clark's Attack
  • 10:45am: Conf call on Gen. Clark's latest attacks w/ Sen. Lindsey Graham and Orson Swindle
  • MCCAIN: In Case You Missed It: McCain Campaign Conference Call On Gen. Wesley Clark's Continued Attacks

For the record, no exclamation points to date.  Save some for the stretch run, boys!   You're just warming up.
