Former New Hampshire U.S. Sen. Warren Rudman defended U.S. Sen. John Sununu's (R-Waterville Valley) stance on the financial bailout and said Sununu has been at the forefront of reforms for various financial institutions.

Rudman told reporters on a conference call that Sununu offered legislation to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac years ago but was blocked by congressional Democrats.

Jennifer Horn Statement on House BAILOUT Vote

NASHUA –Jennifer Horn, Republican candidate for Congress, released the following statement following the passage of the economic bailout bill by the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Jennifer Horn: “The Bush/Paulson bill was a bad bill. I applaud Sen. Gregg’s leadership in trying to make a bad bill better.  I agree that we have to do something to ease the credit crunch, but the premise is wrong that the American taxpayer has to pay the bill - they did nothing wrong.

For the second time this week, U.S. Reps. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) and Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) voted against the proposed bailout legislation.

This second bill overwhelmingly passed both chambers of Congress.

New Hampshire's two United States Representatives are still undecided over whether or not they will support a revised bailout bill that is expected to be voted on later today.

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) and U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) both voted against the original bill on Monday.

Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) said she does not support the financial bailout bill working its way through Congress. However, she told The Conway Daily Sun in an editorial board meeting, after her first debate against U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley), that she was "inclined" to support the bill.

The Shaheen campaign said that Shaheen remains opposed to the Senate version of the bill because it lacks oversight regulations.

GREGG LAUDS SENATE PASSAGE OF MARKET STABILIZATION PACKAGE

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, and lead negotiator for Senate Republicans, today praised the decision of Senate leadership to bring up the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act for a vote Wednesday evening in the Senate.

MANCHESTER-- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani credited John McCain with helping to rally Republican support for the financial bailout legislation that failed in the House of Representatives.

Giuliani made the comments while campaigning in New Hampshire for Executive Councilor Ray Wieczorek (R-Manchester).
