Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter announced today that she has urged President Bush to immediately providing funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  Shea-Porter, along with 51 House colleagues, sent a letter to the President requesting the immediate release $120 million in the LIHEAP contingency fund.

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today requested $3 billion in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  In a letter sent to House Leaders Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer, Shea-Porter urged LIHEAP funding be included in any future economic stimulus package.

GREGG COSPONSORS BILL TO INCREASE LIHEAP FUNDING BY $2.5 BILLION FOR UPCOMING WINTER MONTHS

 

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today cosponsored bipartisan legislation to help families and low income individuals, including those in New Hampshire, with the rising costs of heating oil for the upcoming winter months.  S.3186, the Warm in Winter and Cool in Summer Act, provides an additional $2.5 billion for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), nearly doubling the current level of funding for the program.  Under this legislation, New Hampshire would receive nearly $8.5 million in additional formula funding, as well as an estimated $18.6 million in contingency funding (which is allocated at the Administration’s discretion).

GREGG AND SUNUNU URGE PRESIDENT TO RELEASE REMAINING LIHEAP FUNDS

 

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu (R-NH) today joined more than 40 of their Senate colleagues in writing to President Bush to urge him to release the remaining $120 million in Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) contingency funds.  Over the past five years, the cost for Granite Staters to heat their homes in the winter has more than tripled, placing increased stress on ever-tightening family budgets; and these costs are again expected to increase for the upcoming winter.  The full text of the letter is included below.
