Shea-Porter plays down senate rumors

In a phone interview with PolitickerNH.com, U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) sought to temper rumors that she is considering running for the United States Senate.

"If you could see the smile on my face I think you'd probably know," Shea-Porter said when asked about a possible 2010 Senate campaign. "I don't know how that story started, but I will tell you one thing, I have a lot of work to do in the House."

SENATORS GREGG AND FEINSTEIN INTRODUCE BIPARTISAN MEASURE TO COMBAT IDENTITY THEFT AND PROTECT PRIVACY

 

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senators Judd Gregg (R-NH) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced bipartisan legislation to curb the growing epidemic of identity theft by making it harder for criminals to steal another person’s Social Security number. The measure, entitled the Protecting the Privacy of Social Security Numbers Act, prohibits the sale or display of Social Security numbers to the general public without an individual’s consent.  It also requires government agencies to take steps to protect Social Security numbers from being displayed or accessed.  In the past, this bill has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, although the Senate has yet to pass it.

Gregg, Shaheen pledge bipartisanship

U.S. Sens. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) pledged today to work together to help solve problems facing the state of New Hampshire.

Shaheen was sworn in earlier today to become New Hampshire's first female United States Senator and Gregg said that he was "honored" to be a part of the swearing in event.

NH Political Library elects new members

The New Hampshire Political Library has announced that it has elected two new members to its Board of Directors.

State Sen. Sylvia Larsen (D-Concord) and Joel Maiola will be joining the library's board. Larsen is the president of the state senate and Maiola is the former chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye).

Gregg expects ‘excellent relationship’ with Shaheen

CONCORD--U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) said that he is expecting to have an "excellent relationship" with U.S. Sen.-elect Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).

Gregg said that based on previous experiences, he thinks he will be able to work with Shaheen to promote New Hampshire issues in Washington.

"I expect to have an excellent relationship with Jeanne. We had an excellent relationship when she was governor and I was senator, we worked together on a lot of projects," Gregg told reporters. "The most significant and successful being the purchase of the 175,000 acres in the North Country which we both co-chaired that initiative."

Gregg says communities shouldn’t rely on federal stimulus

CONCORD--U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) told reporters that New Hampshire communities should not be developing lists of projects they would like to be supported by a possible federal stimulus project.

Instead, Gregg suggested that Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) should lead a conference of the state's leaders to decide where to spend the potential $300 million from the federal government for infrastructure improvements.

GREGG ANNOUNCES $443,000 FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM

            WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today announced that New Hampshire will receive $443,078 in federal aid through the Emergency Food and Shelter (EFS) Program.  The lump sum will be distributed to shelters, soup kitchens and food banks throughout the Granite State based on need. One-month awards for rent, mortgage, and utility assistance are also available.  The funds are used to help individuals and families with non-disaster, temporary emergency needs.

Gregg criticizes administration over auto bailout

U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) has released a statement that is critical of the Bush administration decision to use money from the financial bailout to provide loans to American automobile companies.

President George W. Bush announced on Friday that it will use money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to give General Motors and Chrysler $17.4 billion in short-term loans. TARP was the program established by congress to oversee the $700 billion bailout it passed in October for financial service companies.
