State of emergency declared in Granite State

Last night's devastating ice storm has forced Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) to declare a state of emergency in New Hampshire.

The storm has left 200,000 residents without power and has closed hundreds of schools across the state. The storm also forced WMUR television station off the air and delayed distributions of The Nashua Telegraph.

Congressman Hodes Votes for Tax Relief for Disaster Victims

Washington, DC—Congressman Paul Hodes voted this evening to provide tax relief for victims of disasters in federally-designated disaster areas. The bill would affect federally-declared disasters nationwide, declared after January 1, 2008 and before December 31, 2011. H.R. 7006 would provide every area in the country with equal relief in the event of a Federally-declared disaster. The program is designed to allow the Federal government to be flexible and swift in delivering tax relief to victims of Federal-declared disasters.

Shea-Porter Continues to Stand Up for Storm Victims, Urges President to Provide Individual Relief Assistance

Congresswoman Requests Disaster Relief for Belknap, Coos, and Grafton Counties

New Hampshire—Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter sent a letter to President Bush today urging him to provide individual assistance to the victims of the recent weather disaster and asking him to also include Belknap, Coos, and Grafton Counties in the Disaster Declaration.  Earlier this week, President Bush amended the FEMA Disaster Declaration for New Hampshire and included Strafford and Merrimack Counties.  Although FEMA provides both public and individual assistance, the Declaration currently provides no individual assistance.
