Hodes tries to raise money with a straight face

Congressman Paul Hodes sent out an email on Wednesday claiming to be a targeted seat for the Republicans.  That email may have been hard for him to say with a straight face after seeing he had more than 6x as much money in the bank as his nearest Republican competitor. Hodes continues to be a tenacious fundraiser, something he has been since taking office in 2007.  On Tuesday the FEC 2nd quarter numbers were posted and we learned Hodes had raised nearly $250K and had $972K on hand.  His nearest competitor on the Republican side was state Senator Bob Clegg who raised $64K and finished with $156K in the bank.  Even though he had a significant advantage, it is interesting to see Hodes didn’t sit on his laurels and the very next day was soliciting money via email again.

Clegg downplays Republican label

State Sen. Bob Clegg (R-Hudson): Photo Credit: www.cleggforcongress.comState Sen. Bob Clegg (R-Hudson): Photo Credit: www.cleggforcongress.comIn an online editorial, 2nd Congressional District candidate Bob Clegg (R-Hudson) says presumptive Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will win the Granite State in the fall not because McCain is a Republican but because he is "independent." In the same editorial, Clegg, a state senator, says he also represents the "mind-set" of voters.

"Both of our congressional seats are now occupied by Democrats, but I believe the voters of New Hampshire will deliver them back to the Republicans this year, with John McCain leading the way," Clegg wrote on the website GraniteGrok. "This is not because we both have an ‘R' next to our names; this is because John McCain and I truly represent the mind-set of New Hampshire voters. In 2004, 44% of New Hampshire voters identified themselves as ‘independent'."
