Hodes looking forward to working with Shaheen

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) said that he is looking forward to working with U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) during the next congressional session.

"I am honored to have been sworn into the 111th Congress," Hodes said in a statement to PolitickerNH.com. "I also want to congratulate our new Senator Jeanne Shaheen and I look forward to working with her in this Congress."

Hodes set to travel outside district

Two days after he said he is "seriously considering" running for the U.S. Senate in 2010, U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) has announced that he will be visiting an endangered call center outside of his congressional district.

Hodes' congressional office announced on Wednesday that Hodes will visit the AT&T call center in Dover on Thursday. AT&T announced last week that it will close the call center because the State Department has not renewed a contract with AT&T and the company will now have to lay off the center's 300 employees.

Hodes, Shea-Porter vote for auto bailout

U.S. Reps. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) and Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) each voted in favor of a plan that would provide loans to automobile companies to help prevent them from falling into bankruptcy.

The House voted 237-170 Wednesday night to approve a bailout that would give American car companies $14 billion in loans that would last them until March. To accept the money the companies must promise to restructure their companies by March 31st and President Bush would appoint a "car czar" who would oversee the restructuring.

Hodes trumped Horn in fund-raising

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes

After winning a contentious Republican primary, Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) was never able to catch up to U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) in fund-raising.

Federal Election Commission finance reports show that Hodes raised $2 million and spent $1.7 million to get re-elected to the 2nd Congressional District seat. In the final three weeks of the campaign, Hodes raised $131,964 and spent $340,773, and his campaign committee ended up with $98,133 in the bank.

Horn raised $306,310 and spent $498,766 in the election cycle. In October, Horn raised $66,150 and spent $137,133. She raised $43,504 from individuals and $22,500 from political action committees. Horn also loaned her campaign $238,361.

Hodes played role in Waxman vote

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) played an important behind the scenes role in the ascension of U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Cali.) to become the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce committee.

Hodes served as a member of Waxman's whip team in a caucus vote that pitted Waxman against committee chairman U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.). House Democrats voted 137-122 to give the chairmanship to Waxman instead of to Dingell, who has been the leading Democrat on the committee since 1981.

Smith predicts Democratic sweep

Andy Smith, director of the UNH Survey Center, is predicting that the Democratic federal candidates will win in New Hampshire.
 
"Barack Obama looks to win New Hampshire by a comfortable margin on Tuesday. In the race for U.S. Senate, Shaheen should win a narrow victory over incumbent John Sununu," Smith writes in his latest poll. "In Congressional races, incumbent Paul Hodes is predicted to win New Hampshire's 2nd District and incumbent Carol Shea-Porter looks to pull out a narrow victory in the 1st District."
