Shea-Porter to begin airing first TV ad

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) is set to launch her first television ad in her re-election campaign.

The ad, which was announced on Shea-Porter's Daily Kos diary page, will begin airing on Thursday and focuses on her efforts to promote health care for veterans. The ad also features a cameo from her mother.

CONCORD, NH- 1st District Congressional candidate John Stephen today released his "Call to Action" plan for America's active duty military, National Guard, reserves and veterans at a press conference at the Legislative Office Building.  The plan calls for expanding choice for veterans' health care by allowing them to receive care at any qualified health provider, not just a Veterans Administration facility.  In addition, the proposal accelerates the phase-in of concurrent receipt of retirement benefits for disabled veterans, calls for a full-service VA in New Hampshire, stops a proposed enrollment fee for Tricare, restores the POW/MIA designation for those fighting in the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, improves transition services for those returning home from war and coordinates support for families of armed service members call to action overseas.

NASHUA, NH – United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (8/6) met with Veteran Service Officers in Nashua for an informational discussion on plans by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide in-state radiation therapy for New Hampshire veterans.  The meeting at VFW Post 483 included a briefing by Debra Krinsky, acting Public Affairs Officer for the Manchester Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).

Manchester, NH Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter continued to demonstrate her unwavering support for veterans by announcing she will introduce legislation requiring the Veterans Administration to provide New Hampshire veterans with the same services veterans in other states receive at their full service hospitals.  Congresswoman Shea-Porter’s bill, “The Veterans Equity Health Act,” will ensure that veterans in each of the 48 contiguous states have access to at least one full-service hospital of the Veterans Health Administration or receive comparable services provided by contract.

VA Secretary Peake tells Sununu VAMC plans to offer radiation therapy at New Hampshire hospitals

MANCHESTER, NH - U.S. Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (7/25) announced that U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary James B. Peake has committed to providing in-state radiation therapy for New Hampshire veterans.  In a May 30 letter to the Secretary and again during Peake’s visit to the Manchester Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) last month, Sununu urged the Secretary to improve access to radiation treatment so that veterans would not have to travel out-of-state for cancer treatments.

Bradley, Stephen debate funding for veterans programs

NEW CASTLE-Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and former Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen (R-Manchester) had a heated exchange on federal funding for veteran programs at a Republican forum.

Bradley said Stephen supported a federal budget plan that would have cut veterans programs, Stephen countered that the budget blueprint would not have cut programs.

GREGG, SUNUNU ANNOUNCE $200,000 GRANT FOR HOUSING AND SERVICES FOR HOMELESS VETERANS IN NASHUA

WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu (R-NH) today (6/25) announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $200,000 in funding to Harbor Homes, Inc., of Nashua to help reintegrate homeless veterans into the labor force.  The funding was made available through The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP), which provides emergency shelter, job counseling, transportation, and other assistance to homeless veterans.

Despite his lip service, Sununu has opposed funding for the VA and for veterans' health care

(Manchester, NH) - Secretary of Veterans Affairs James Peake visited the Manchester VA Medical Center today and announced he doesn't foresee that New Hampshire will ever have a full service VA again. [AP, 6/24/08] John Sununu visited with Peake at the VA this morning and issued a press release saying he "thanked the Secretary for coming to New Hampshire to tour the Manchester facility and learn more about the needs of the veterans it serves."
